The idea of making short-run personalized paper products for weddings, parties, home cooks, small businesses, brewers, and winemakers was first imagined in January of 2000 by graphic designer Jeanne Williamson, after making personalized labels for her homemade jam that Christmas. She described the idea to her husband David who instantly saw the potential. For the next five months, the two of them spent many all-nighters in their spare-bedroom-turned-office to set up the company and design the products.
At last in May of 2000 the My Own Labels website went live, and to David and Jeanne's surprise and delight, an order came in! Processing that first order was a true test of the concept but the reward was a happy customer who loved her labels! Beginnings are often bumpy and it still took months of working out the kinks, and years more of polishing up the products and process.
